Peaceful Protest in Barcelona to Free Catalan Prisoners and the Return of Exiles

Yesterday evening, a row of people walked round the streets of Plaça Sant Jaume in silence. The protesters demanded the freedom of political prisoners and the free return of the exiles. It has been a new action of the Freedom Call (Crida per la Llibertat) to denounce that, although there is already a new president of the Generalitat, "the Spanish State maintains Catalan political prisoners and that as a result of the repression of this State There are exiled independentist leaders."

The reborn civical movement Freedom Call (Crida per la Llibertat) was active in the eighties and nineties as Solidarity Call in Defence of the Catalan Language and Culture. It was born in 1981 and dissolved in 1993 after many peaceful actions mainly to claim for respect to teh Catalan culture often underestimated by the Spanish authorities. Spain changed its Fascist face after the death of dictator Franco but keep the same Catalanophobic and imperialist soul as Franco.

Curiously the Crida had three leaders, Angel Colom who leads the renewed organization, Carles Riera who is now the spokeman of the Candidacy for Popular Unity (CUP) in the Parliament and Jordi Sánchez who is in jail for leading the Catalan National Assembly.
