Spanish Inquisition denounced in a European Parliament Conference

Yesterday the European Parliament hosted a seminar on the attack on freedom of speech and press organised by Ana Miranda Paz MEP and EFA/Greens group. Speakers included journalists, activists as well as MEPs. "The economic & political powers in Spain controlled the media so people within the territory could not see what was happening in front of them. Media were used, not as a tool, but as a weapon against society." said Suso de Toro, writer.

MEP J.M. Terricabras insisted that "freedom of speech also includes the freedom to say things that are not in my favour" that's what is not understood by the Spanish Inquisition Courts. The same day that rapper Valtonyc fled the kingdom to exile, Pablo Hasél, another rapper condemned to jail for his songs:  "They said I was dangerous because I am capable of mobilizing masses... Freedom of speech is at risk in Spain. We can't express our opinions and demonstrations are violently disbanded". Precisely Ariadna Suari spoke by the Support Group for Valtonyc, rapper condemned to three and half years of jail. "He used humour in his music&tweets. The argument of hate speech is used 2 censor rather than to protect Minorities". It's 2018. Musicians should not face jail for expressing their art.


"Independence of media is in danger in Hungary&Central/Eastern Europe too" said Greens MEP Jávor Benedek. "1 tool used to crush critical voices is Market concentration". "EU Commission must act to defend independent media". MEP Bénedek is very active in defending free journalism.
